Legislative Update (March 24, 2017)

Dear Neighbors,

We had a busy week at the Capitol. House Republicans released many of our budget bills, and I think Minnesotans will be pleased with what they see. A few highlights include:

  • A $1.35 billion tax relief bill targeted toward farmers, small business owners, working families, and senior citizens.
  • $2 billion toward transportation in the next two years with a focus on roads and bridges.
  • A $1.1 billion increase in education spending from last biennium.

There’s plenty of smaller provisions contained in these bills, and we’ll dive into those in future updates as these proposals hit the House floor.

This Week’s Visitors

This week, I was visited by a number of local officials. City council members from Carver, Watertown, Hamburg, and Victoria stopped by to talk about issues that impact our residents. As a former mayor, I have a great respect for those who serve, especially at the local level. Thanks to everyone who came to St. Paul!

Puppy Day

When you need a break at the Capitol, few things can brighten your day like a puppy. On Thursday, Uber and Secondhand Hounds brought puppies to our office to highlight a need for pet adoption. If you’re interested, we made a cute video of some lawmakers with these furry little friends.
