Dear Friends and Neighbors,

This week House Republicans announced their budget targets.

Highlights in the plan include:

  • $1.35 billion in meaningful tax relief
  • $450 million in new funding for road and bridge infrastructure which more than doubles current general fund investments in transportation
  • $1.1 billion in new funding for K-12 schools compared to last biennium
  • An overall budget target that is less than the Senate and Governor Dayton, demonstrating our commitment to passing a responsible budget that limits government growth

I believe that we have put forth a commonsense and comprehensive proposal that respects taxpayers and the people of our state. Our budget limits government spending, while still investing in our shared priorities including putting more money into the classroom, working to lower health care costs, funding transportation, and providing significant tax relief to the hardworking taxpayers of Woodbury.

With those targets, House finance committees are now hard at work, putting together and passing omnibus budget bills. I will keep you updated about these funding bills as they are finalized and sent to the House Floor for debate and passage.
