RELEASE: REP. FRANSON’S STATEMENT ON HOUSE BUDGET PROPOSAL

Wednesday, March 22, 2017

ST. PAUL, MN -- House Republicans announced their budget targets Monday, headlined by $1.35 billion in tax relief for Minnesota families, $450 million in new funding for road and bridge infrastructure, and an overall budget target that ensures a sustainable level of state spending for the next biennium.

“Minnesotans don’t want state government spending to grow unchecked,” said Rep. Mary Franson (R-Alexandria). “This is why House Republicans have put forward a responsible budget addressing that concern through trimming the fat off of state agencies. Unfortunately, Governor Dayton’s agenda is to increase taxes and spend more of your money to grow government. In order to make state government live within its means, we need to lower tax rates; I hope that can be a priority in the future.”

The overall House Republican budget target limits government spending more than the two proposals put forward by the Governor and the Senate.

The budget resolution, containing the targets, will be adopted this week by the House Ways and Means Committee and will serve as the framework for Finance Committees as they construct their budgets.
