Legislative Update (March 10, 2017)

Friday, March 10, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

Committee Deadline

Each year, we have deadlines where bills must be heard in committee. This session, these deadlines are moved up a bit, putting us in a bit of a crunch. The first deadline was today, which means we've been having long hearings so these bills can be discussed. This is an exciting time because now we'll be putting together our budget proposals for the next two years.

My Bills

A few of my bills have been moving through the legislative process. HF1362 is a bill to fund co-parenting classes for unmarried parents at a health and wellness center. It's beneficial for children to have two parents who are active and engaged in their child's life.

In the Civil Law Committee, we put together a data practices omnibus bill. This is a group of smaller bills relating to a similar subject that form one larger piece of legislation. Our goal with this bill is to make government more transparent while ensuring the personal privacy of Minnesotans.

Weekly Visitors

Thanks to everyone who came to St. Paul this week to visit! I had constituent visitors from the insurance industry, the landscape industry where we focused the discussion on the Emerald Ash Borer, and AARP. I was also fortunate to spend some time with high school students from the district!
