RELEASE: Rep. Koznick Statement on Sunday Sales Bill

Wednesday, February 22, 2017

ST. PAUL, MN—The Minnesota House passed legislation Monday that would legalize the sale of liquor, beer, and wine on Sundays, the first time in state history that standalone legislation on this issue has been voted on or approved. The bill passed on a bipartisan 85-45 vote, and now heads to the Senate for consideration.

“Though not a top priority of mine this session, I voted for this legislation to give businesses and consumers a choice to operate or purchase liquor on Sundays," said Rep. Jon Koznick, R-Lakeville. "I've discussed this issue with Lakeville’s liquor store manager, we agreed on the conclusion that consumer choice on this issue was paramount. We are also working hard to provide tax relief, transportation funding, and continuing to reform health care choices.”

Sunday Liquor Sales has been a perennial issue at the legislature, but has gained momentum in recent years. In 2013, the provision earned just 21 "yes" votes, increasing each year and culminating in its successful passage by the House.
