Legislative Update

Friday, February 17, 2017

Hello from the Capitol!

Iron Maidens robotics team from Apple Valley High School, along with the Education Innovation Policy Committee Chair: Sondra Erickson, presented a bill to the Education Finance Committee that would increase Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) funding in our public schools. Good luck at your regional competition!

Does State Government Owe You Money?:

Each year, the Minnesota Department of Commerce receives millions of dollars in unclaimed property. The property is turned over to the state by businesses, banks, etc., as they are not able to locate the rightful owner.

The Department now has a program designed to find missing money and/or financial property and reunite it with the rightful owner. I am also a co-author on a piece of legislation that would require the Department of Commerce to more actively seek out the folks that are owed money and/or property.

Check out this link to see if Minnesota owes you money.

Women of Excellence Award:

On Tuesday I was named one of the Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Women of Excellence. I am flattered to have received this award. I would like to thank my family, the Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce, my professional colleagues, and the residents of Lakeville and Burnsville for making this possible.

This award was created to honor influential women in their community and who thrive in their respective industry.

Congratulations to Michele Boston and Monica Engel on being named the other 2 Women of Excellence, nicely done ladies!

Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce Women’s Conference:

If you are interested, the 7th annual Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce Women’s Conference will be held March 9th at the Best Western Premier Nicollet Inn (14201 Nicollet Ave, Burnsville).
