Legislative Update (Feb. 3, 2017)

Friday, February 3, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

I wanted to pass along a quick legislative update from St. Paul.

Introducing Bills

This week, I introduced my first six bills of the legislative session. They range from funding for the Dyslexia Institute of Minnesota, to upgrading the Rochester Airport, to a tax credit for farmers. I’ve heard from local residents, and these bills represent what’s important to our area. If you want to learn more about these pieces of legislation, please click here.

Senior Financial Fraud Town Hall

Next Friday, February 10, I’ll join other officials and stakeholders for a Senior Financial Fraud Town Hall. The goal of this event is to help our senior citizens avoid potential financial scams or fraud. This is an increasingly important issue, especially for seniors.

The event starts at 10am at the 125 LIVE Senior Center in Rochester. If you’re interested in attending, or know someone who would benefit from the town hall, please contact me.

Getting Involved

As a state representative, I can’t stress enough how important it is to be involved in local, state, or federal government. Not everyone wants to run for public office, but there are so many ways to be involved and advocate for what’s important to you.

Earlier this week, a representative advocating for mental health said their board was only 2/3 full. To me, it seemed like an opportunity for more local citizens to get involved and share their ideas and expertise. If you have a certain passion such as area parks, transportation, or even libraries, please contact my office and we can get you in touch with folks in our district and state who’d love your assistance. Here are some lists of various commission and board opportunities:

Minnesota

Rochester

Stewartville

Chatfield

Eyota

Along with being active in your community, I also think it’s important to share your views with your elected officials. I’ve had some great interactions early this session, and love hearing the issues that are important to you and your family. If you get a chance, please call or email my office.

Have a great weekend,
