News From Rep. Keith Franke 1-27-2017

Friday, January 27, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

Here’s a short update from the last week.

Health Care Relief and Reform Bill Signed

Yesterday was arguably the most important day of the young legislative session. The House and Senate passed a health care bill that will make an immediate impact for thousands of Minnesotans.

The bill, which I co-authored, provides immediate premium relief for those buying insurance on the individual market. Folks in our area have contacted me about how they can’t afford their premiums each month, much less pay the deductible if something goes wrong. Our bill provides a 25% reduction for Minnesotans who can’t qualify for tax credits.

We also included meaningful reforms to preserve access, increase competition, and expand choice. These are important provisions as we continue to look for other long-term solutions. Our bill passed on a wide bipartisan vote, and the governor quickly signed it into law. It’s encouraging to see both parties come together to swiftly pass this bill.

South St. Paul Day at the Capitol

I sent an email earlier this week, but wanted to remind you that tomorrow is South St. Paul Day at the Capitol. This is a great chance to see many of you, and show you around the Capitol. I hope to see you tomorrow!

If you can’t make it, feel free to schedule an appointment that works for you. It’d be great to chat with you in my office if you get a chance! Earlier this week, I met with constituents from the SCVR. Thanks for stopping by, guys!
