Dean to address health insurance issues during Eggs and Issues event

Thursday, January 19, 2017

ST. PAUL – Minnesota House Health and Human Services Finance Committee Chairman Rep. Matt Dean, R-Dellwood, will share his perspectives on a variety of health insurance issues during a Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce Eggs and Issues event 7:30 a.m. Friday at the Rochester Golf and Country Club.

The health insurance premium crisis MNsure enrollees are facing has been a top issue in the early stages of the 2017 session and something Dean said he plans to discuss at the meeting. He indicated he will outline a package of immediate relief of $300 million to some of those suffering most, reducing the cost of insurance premiums by 25 percent.

“Middle-class Minnesota is in a vice,” Dean said. “Folks are paying 10, 20 and even $40,000 per year for family health care. They pay more to get less while others pay less to get more.”

Dean also said he will deliver an overview of health insurance reform the House is proposing during the current session, including to address the problem of limited access to health insurance.

“As bad a crisis as the insurance costs are, the problem of access is even worse,” Dean said. “People are being cut off from their doctor and hospital.”

Finally, Dean said he will outline his yearlong effort to kill MNsure.

“This $300 million boondoggle has not only cost Minnesotans money, it is hurting people,” Dean said.
