Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Dear Neighbors,

As we close out this year, I would like to give you a very brief update regarding special session negotiations.

Special Session

Unfortunately, the December 16^th deadline set by Governor Dayton came and went with no agreement. There is essentially no chance that the Governor will call a special session this month, and because of that, we will plan on addressing the MNsure situation as quickly as possible once the regular legislative session begins on January 3^rd. Our priorities will also be tax relief, education, and building transportation infrastructure.

Committee Assignments

On Tuesday, House committee assignments were announced.  I am looking forward to continuing on as Chair of the Veterans Affairs Committee, and to joining my fellow members of the State Government Finance, Capital Investment, Taxes, and Ways and Means committees in working for Minnesotans.

Merry Christmas

This time of year always reminds me of just how very lucky we are to live in a country where we have freedom of religion, and can practice our Christian faith and celebrate Christ’s birth without fear. Recent and on-going events in the world show us that many people of faith do not have this privilege, and they are in my prayers this season.

Both of my sons are in the military, and we are so excited to have Travis home for Christmas this year. Our son, Robb, will ship out for Afghanistan for his 4^th deployment in January, and our thoughts go with him. To all those who serve, and to the families who support them from here at home, thank you for your sacrifice and willingness to help protect our freedoms.
