Prepping for Winter and the Legislative Session

Friday, December 9, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you’re staying warm as another round of cooler air is set to hit our state. The good news is; we’re Minnesotans, and temperatures in the 20’s will start to feel warm. Bundle up and take the family out to look at some holiday lighting, or take a skate on our local rinks (Central Park is open!) when they’re frozen up.

ADA Bill

You may remember from last session, I passed a bill into law to help prevent unnecessary, frivolous lawsuits on our local businesses. My bill allowed for a small business to have ample time to update their facilities if an American With Disabilities Act violation was brought to light. This helps ensure our businesses are accessible by all, but also protects these same businesses from lawyers trying to make a quick dollar.

Unfortunately, this is still a problem. In order to get the bill through the Senate, we had to change some of the language. This session, I’m continuing to work on this issue to make sure our local small business owners don’t have to fear these predatory lawsuits.

Local Sports

Now that it really is starting to feel like a Minnesota winter outside, it’s a good chance to cheer on our local high school sports teams. Our winter sports are in full swing, and they have some important games coming up, especially this weekend for Maple Grove and Osseo hockey teams. We’re always proud of our local athletes, and wish them the best of luck in the young season!
