Statement from Rep. Sarah Anderson on Latest Cost of State Auditor Appeal

Wednesday, December 7, 2016

Will Introduce Legislation in 2017 to hold Auditor’s Office Accountable for Ongoing Expenses

SAINT PAUL, MN—On Wednesday, Minnesota State Auditor Rebecca Otto released the latest costs related to her legal challenge of a bipartisan 2015 law change which was upheld by a district court earlier this year. Her legal fees for the months of September and October were $30,170, bringing the total cost to taxpayers up to more than $250,000 to date.

Representative Sarah Anderson, R-Plymouth, Chair of the House State Government Finance Committee released the following statement:

State Auditor Otto has now squandered more than $250,000 of taxpayer dollars on a frivolous lawsuit against the state of Minnesota and a handful of counties over a bipartisan law change that has been upheld in a court of law. This lawsuit has no merit, and I will be pursuing legislation to address growing concerns from property taxpayers regarding the Auditor’s waste of public funds.
