ST. PAUL – State Rep. Tony Albright, R-Prior Lake, has been appointed to head the House chamber when Speaker Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, is away or unavailable during the 2017-18 biennium.

Albright received the speaker pro tempore appointment from Daudt on Wednesday as House Republicans continue setting new personnel roles after maintaining and expanding their majority in the Nov. 8 election. Albright officially will begin his third term when the Legislature convenes Jan. 3 in St. Paul.

“It is an honor to have been selected for this position and I look forward to helping the people of Minnesota by advancing important legislation,” Albright said. “We are at a crucial point in our state’s timeline and I look forward to not only helping us meet the challenge, but providing leadership that will allow us to thrive.”

Daudt said Albright has all the makings of a quality speaker pro tempore and he was pleased to make the appointment.

“Rep. Albright will provide a steady, fair voice for the chamber in this role,” Daud said. “He is well-respected by fellow House members and I have full confidence in his ability to lead the body when called upon.”
