Annual Beacon meeting takes place in Aitkin County

Thursday, October 20, 2016

PALISADE, Minn. – More than 75 private sector professionals, government agency personnel and citizens from across North Central Minnesota gathered at Long Lake Conservation Center near Palisade for the annual Beacon meeting Wednesday to assess what is working and what areas need additional attention within our community. The group examined a broad spectrum of community services.

“The Beacon gathering was organized by Aileen Demenge and the staff at the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency,” said Rep. Dale Lueck, R-Aitkin. “Like last year’s gathering, this was a wonderful opportunity for professionals and citizen volunteers to examine in detail the broad spectrum of community services that are delivered every day here in Aitkin County and across the region.”

Attendees came from a variety of organizations and featured assisted living and nursing home directors, hospital senior management, energy company personnel, school district principals, disabled services professionals, in-home care workers, veterans’ services, and a full range of county and regional government professionals that provide services to the community. Attendees broke into working groups where they reviewed what is working, where there might be unnecessary duplication and what areas may need to be addressed.

“I want to express my thanks to all that attended and a special thanks to Aileen Demenge and the staff at AEOA for again putting together this excellent opportunity for strengthening the fabric of our wonderful community services the private sector, non-profit community groups, citizen volunteers and local government provide to our citizens,” said Sen. Carrie Ruud, R-Breezy Point.
