Statement from Rep. Dan Fabian on Sandpiper Pipeline

Friday, September 2, 2016

Roseau, MINN— On Thursday, September 1, 2016, Enbridge announced its withdrawal of the $2.6 billion Sandpiper Pipeline Project applications before the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission.

Representative Dan Fabian (R-Roseau) released the following statement regarding Sandpiper Pipeline:

I am extremely disappointed that Sandpiper Pipeline is not moving forward, as this  project would have delivered a significant boost for Northwest Minnesota’s economy, provided thousands of good-paying blue collar jobs and millions of dollars in annual property tax revenue that could have helped support our local school districts and fund road and bridge improvements. Unfortunately, Sandpiper has been burdened with regulatory delays and roadblocks from day one, and now neighboring states with a more streamlined permitting process will see those investments.

Those who worked to block this pipeline, including some Minnesota state agencies, have robbed Greater Minnesota of revenue, jobs and economic growth. I am also frustrated that Governor Dayton was not more vocal and helpful in support of this vital project.

I will continue to make streamlining the permitting process a high priority because abandoned projects like Sandpiper Pipeline are vital to the economic health of our state.
