RELEASE: Rep. Mark Uglem Statement on REAL ID

Tuesday, May 17, 2016

Following the Minnesota House of Representatives floor session on May 17th, Rep. Mark Uglem (R- Champlin) issued the following statement on REAL ID:

"I'm pleased to say that the bill passed by the Minnesota House today addresses the REAL ID issue in a comprehensive way," said Rep. Mark Uglem. "It will make federally compliant REAL IDs available to people wanting to board domestic flights and enter federal facilities. It also allows those with data privacy concerns the option to get an ID that opts-out of REAL ID standards."

"The REAL ID will not require any additional information beyond what is currently required for a Minnesota driver's license, and will fulfill the goal of federal REAL ID standards; it will make it very difficult for a terrorist to board an airplane or enter a military base with a fake ID and perpetrate an attack. I'm happy that this measure passed with bipartisan support, and I look forward to following the conference committee debate with the Senate."
