Statement re: special session talks

Friday, August 19, 2016

ST. PAUL – Rep. Bud Nornes, R-Fergus Falls, expressed disappointment Thursday following news a special session to address key issues such as bills related to tax and bonding appears unlikely to take place in the coming weeks.

“It is disappointing to see the governor is reluctant to call a special session so we can pass legislation that received overwhelming bipartisan support during the regular session,” Nornes said. “One of the most bipartisan tax bills in 30 years with hundreds of millions of dollars in tax relief, along with a solid bonding bill to fund important infrastructure projects, should be a slam dunk. It appears as if those bills are being withheld as leverage to build more light rail trains in the Twin Cities, which is too bad. Politics should not stand in the way of passing good legislation to help Minnesotans.”
