Statement from Representative Deb Kiel on End of Special Session Negotiations

Thursday, August 18, 2016

Crookston, MINN— On Thursday, legislative leaders met with Governor Dayton again to try and come to an agreement for a special session. While they remained very close on most issues including tax relief and bonding, Democrats held up passing those bipartisan initiatives over a highly controversial Southwest Light Rail Line that is facing pending legal challenges.

The following is a statement on special session from Representative Deb Kiel (R-Crooskton):

“This session, legislators came to a bipartisan agreement on middle-class tax relief for folks across the state including families, college graduates, farmers and Main Street businesses. The bonding bill we passed also included funding for important local projects like the North Country Food Bank and Northland Community and Technical College. I am disappointed that those projects have all been held up, along with vital funding for our roads and bridges, because of Southwest Light Rail.”
