Fabian Encourages Local Schools Districts, Charter Schools to Apply for Broadband Education Grants

Wednesday, August 17, 2016

Roseau, MINN— The Minnesota Department of Education is now accepting applications for the Broadband Expansion Off-Campus Learning Grant Program from Minnesota public school districts, charter schools and education districts.

The Minnesota legislature created the program in 2016. A total of $500,000 in new grant funds was authorized for the program in a continuing effort to improve broadband access with a focus on reaching students in unserved/underserved areas and low income families. There are two grant opportunities available, one for off-campus learning grants and the other for a school bus internet access grant. Applicants can apply for both and are eligible for up to $50,000 in funding per project.

“The Broadband Expansion Off-Campus Learning Grant Program was created for underserved parts of our state including right here in Northwest Minnesota,” said Rep. Dan Fabian, R-Roseau. “I hope our local districts will take advantage of this new and unique broadband opportunity.”

Grant applications must be received (not postmarked) by 3:30 P.M. on September 9th. For more information contact Jennifer Nelson at jennifer.r.nelson@state.mn.us or (651) 582-8791, or Rep. Fabian at rep.dan.fabian@house.mn or 651-296-9635.
