RELEASE: Rep. Tony Albright Bills Officially Become Law

Monday, August 1, 2016

St. Paul, MN – On Monday, August 1, a number of bills passed by the Legislature officially became law. Among the numerous new laws are two provisions chief authored by Rep. Tony Albright, R-Prior Lake. The first, HF2445, gives more of a voice to osteopathic physicians on the state’s medical oversight board. The change expands the board to 11 members, adding one more opening for an osteopathic physician.

“There’s a large number of osteopathic physicians in our state, and we need to give them a greater voice in making decisions that impact healthcare throughout Minnesota,” said Albright.

The second, HF2901, assists patients being screened for mental health or chemical dependency problems. Now, a patient will be tested for chemical dependency issues when given a mental health assessment.

“In order to better treat Minnesotans with substance abuse or mental health disorders, we should be testing for both to find the root of any potential problem,” said Albright. “This small change could have a big impact in the quality of care for many of our residents.”

Both bills received unanimous support in the House and the Senate.
