Legislative Update (7-22-16)

Friday, July 22, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

Last week, legislative leaders and the Governor met in St. Paul to discuss a special session that could be held as early as next month to repass a tax relief and bonding/transportation bill. I am pleased to share news that it seems legislative leaders and the Governor are getting closer to an agreement.

While this is encouraging news, I want to make clear that there are still differences between the House, Senate, and Governor that need to be addressed before a special session would be called. Nevertheless, I am cautiously optimistic that a special session may take place sometime in August.

A special session is particularly important as it gives us the chance to pass the $800 million tax relief bill that was vetoed by Governor Dayton. Stay tuned.

Please note that this will likely be my final email update until November due to a 60-day post-session rule. However, if you need assistance on a legislative matter I am always available to help. Please call or email at rep.josh.heintzeman@house.mn or 651-296-4333.

Have a great summer!

Josh
