News from Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen 6-21-2016

Tuesday, June 21, 2016

Dear Friends,

I would like to extend my prayers and condolences to the victims of the Orlando terrorist attack and their families. Our nation mourns with you in this time of great pain and loss.

These tragic events should galvanize our Federal Government to ensure that we do whatever possible to ensure the safety of our country, and establish a process for vetting people entering our nation that prevents radicalized individuals intending to harm Americans from entering. The twisted ideology of radical Islam presents a threat to people around the world, and we must stay vigilant in our day to day lives in raising our concerns to our elected officials.

Though the terrorist in the Orlando attack was born and radicalized in this country, we know that Islamic State militants pose a significant threat to our nation, as we have seen the atrocities they have committed abroad on both Muslims and Christians alike. We must establish procedures that protect our citizens when offering refugees from ISIS asylum, and that allow us to keep track of individuals once they are here. I ask that Governor Dayton insist on these precautions prior to the resettlement of these groups here in Minnesota.

The individual who perpetrated this heinous attack on our nation had reportedly spoken to a coworker about killing persons in the past. If anyone in your life, regardless of background, speaks about committing acts of violence, please report this to the proper authorities.

Again, my deepest sympathy for the victims and their families in Orlando. We will do our utmost to ensure that you will not endure this heartache again.

Sincerely,

Glenn
