Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Blessings to all fathers this weekend as we celebrate Father’s Day on Sunday. I remember the days growing up, working for my father at Taft Farmers Elevator located in the heart of the Red River Valley in North Dakota. The greatest gift he gave me was the belief that I could do anything I set my mind to do.
He was a quiet and patient father, guiding me every day in the elevator as I learned all the particulars of testing grains such as wheat, flax, barley and oats so the business paid only for grain, not weeds. I also remember listening for the daily market to know when to sell the grain for the farmers.
Sadly Dad was killed in a car accident in 1971, a few months before the birth of his second grandson, my son. Now that grandson is a father himself and providing great training for his son.
What follows is a verse from Proverbs that my Father (and Son) honored:
“Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it."
