MAPLE LAKE, MINN—Last week, Representative Marion O'Neill (R-Maple Lake) received the Financial Advocacy Award from Luther Social Services (LSS) for her legislation that provides financial counseling to help keep Minnesotans from defaulting on their student loans. The new pilot program is unique to our state and helps people struggling with student debt find financial management options that work for them.

"It is an honor to receive the Financial Advocacy Award from Lutheran Social Services, and I am pleased at the success the student loan financial counseling pilot program has had in its first year," said Rep. O'Neill. "Student loan debt and delinquency is a serious problem for many Minnesotans. Providing counseling, financial tools and advice can help people find solutions that work for them while also promoting personal responsibility and preventing bailouts from the state and taxpayers. I will continue to promote financial literacy and advocate for Minnesota college students and graduates."
