BUDGET LEGISLATION PRIORITIZING BROADBAND, VETERANS SIGNED INTO LAW

Friday, June 3, 2016

ST. PAUL – A supplemental budget proposal that benefits Greater Minnesota in a number of ways has been signed into law. State Representative Greg Davids (R-Preston) supported the measure.

“This legislation is the result of Republican and Democratic cooperation,” Davids said. “It’s a good bill and I’m pleased Governor Dayton shares our commitment to broadband and our veterans.”

Davids said the legislation makes another $35 million investment for broadband. This brings the biennial total to $45 million, which surpasses the amount dedicated by the previous legislature for this reliable technology. Combined with federal funding, Davids noted that Minnesota will now see roughly $120 million in broadband investments in the next year.

Davids said veterans will also benefit from the new law, as their military pensions will no longer be subject to the state income tax.

“Thanks to this legislation, Minnesota has implemented a strong veteran tax policy and continued its significant expansion in broadband access for our rural communities,” Davids concluded.
