FABIAN BILL TO ALLOW AUTOCYCLES, POLARIS SLINGSHOT TO REQUIRE JUST A DRIVER'S LICENSE INSTEAD OF MOTORCYCLE ENDORSEMENT SIGNED INTO LAW

Thursday, May 19, 2016

Saint Paul, MINN— On Thursday, May 19, 2016, Governor Mark Dayton singed bipartisan legislation authored by Representative Dan Fabian (R-Roseau) into law. The new law creates a new vehicle category of autocycles which have three wheels like the Polaris Slingshot, requiring just a driver's license to operate instead of a motorcycle endorsement. Autocycles will continue to be categorized with motorcycles for insurance and registration purposes. The legislation was crafted because autocycles cannot be accommodated on Department of Motor Vehicle's motorcycle test courses.

"This common sense change to state law may make it more likely that consumers will buy a Slingshot or another brand of autocycle. While the change may be small, I hope that it results in increased sales of all brands of autocycles," said Rep. Fabian. "I appreciate having worked with Polaris on this bill and all of the great bipartisan support my legislation garnered. I am pleased it was signed into law by the governor."
