Legislative Update (May 13, 2016)

Friday, May 13, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

We’re closing in on the last days of my first legislative session, and things are heating up in St. Paul. Before the weekend, I wanted to give you a quick update on one of the biggest issues in the Legislature, as well as a couple other items of note.

Road and Bridge Funding

Earlier today, House Republicans again urged the governor against raising taxes to pay for roads and bridges. With a $900 million surplus, we don’t need to raise taxes on Minnesota families to fund our basic transportation needs. The governor will present his transportation offer on Monday, and I hope he listens to the majority of Minnesotans who don’t want a gas tax increase to pay for roads and bridges.

Local Cub Scouts

Earlier this week, I joined some Cub Scouts from Bloomington to chat about the legislative process. The Scouts presented some great questions, and the experience helped fulfill their “Building a Better World” requirement. After spending some time with these guys, I know they’re going to do some big things in the future.

Constituent Visit

One of the most amazing things about being a representative is seeing an idea become viable legislation. This week, residents of our area joined me for the passing of a bill they supported. It’s always great seeing constituents come to St. Paul and advocating for a cause they believe in.
