ST. PAUL – State Rep. Tom Hackbarth, R-Cedar, chairman of the House Mining and Outdoor Recreation Policy Committee, issued the following statement after the House today approved H.F. 3925, a bill which establishes a legislative oversight commission for the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board's supplemental economic development appropriations.
"This bill mirrors recent recommendations from the nonpartisan Office of the Legislative Auditor to improve accountability and transparency in grants and loans the IRRRB issues for economic development purposes," Hackbarth said. "There has been insufficient legislative oversight to determine the effectiveness of these appropriations and it is time to increase responsibility. The people on the Iron Range deserve better and this bill is a step in that direction."
