RELEASE: Rep. Tony Albright Passes Two Bills in House

Tuesday, May 10, 2016

ST. PAUL, MN – Recently, Rep. Tony Albright, R-Prior Lake, passed two bills off the House floor. The first, HF2445, made technical changes to the Board of Medical Practice. The bill passed unanimously 127-0 in the House and 62-0 in the Senate.

“It wasn’t one of our large pieces of legislation, but HF2445, makes a necessary change to licensing requirements for osteopathic physicians,” said Albright. “The bipartisan nature of this bill shows how often lawmakers can find agreement in St. Paul.”

Another bill, SF2498, passed on May 9th with a unanimous vote of 127-0. The legislation assists those with co-occurring mental health disorders and chemical dependency. The bill instructs medical staff who perform chemical dependency assessments to also test for mental health disorders. Now passed by the House and Senate, SF2498 heads to Governor Dayton’s desk for a signature.

“I’m encouraged to see unanimous support for this bill, and look forward to the governor signing it into law,” said Albright. “Finding ways to better treat mental health issues and chemical dependency is important for the future of our state.”
