News from Rep. Anna Wills 5-6-2016

Friday, May 6, 2016

Hello Friends!

I received some questions on our House budget targets since my last update. Our budget targets add up to net zero for fiscal year 2016/2017. Essentially, when all of our budget categories are added up, the House is not spending any additional money in this year’s legislation. All "new" money that has been appropriated in our House Budget Resolution has been reallocated from different budget areas, meaning that there is essentially no additional tax payer money being spent in our bills this year. The graph below shows the change in each budget target area for this year.

(Please note that the numbers above are in thousands of dollars)

Not shown on this graph is approximately $50 million in new appropriations within the education budget, which was found by giving school districts the option to opt into a loan payback program.

Happy Mother’s Day

I’d like to wish all the moms in our district a very happy Mother’s Day. Every year, this holiday reminds me of all of the different ways mothers affect our lives, and how many different ways someone can become a “mom”. To women who have chosen to fill that role for someone who does not have a mother in their lives, to those who have adopted children, and for new mothers getting used to having an infant in your home, God bless you and your loved ones.

My prayers are also with the mothers who have lost their children, and for those in our community celebrating Mother’s Day without their mom nearby.

This is the first time I have had a child of my own on Mother's Day, and I can’t believe what an honor it is to be his mommy.

I hope you find time to celebrate with, or remember, your mother over this weekend.
