Survey Results

Friday, April 29, 2016

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Thank you to everyone who took my 2016 Legislative Survey! We had hundreds of respondents from Woodbury who shared valuable insight into the priorities of our community. Two of the biggest themes I saw throughout my survey was a preference for tax relief and a transportation bill that does not raise the gas tax this session.

I appreciate everyone who took the time to share their thoughts with me. If you ever have questions, concerns or ideas about state government, I welcome you to contact my office. I am here to serve you!

Here are the results of my survey:

Minnesota has a $900 million surplus for Fiscal Years 2016-17. What should the state do with that money? Select up to three.

Invest in our Roads and Bridges   65.5%

Return that Money to Taxpayers through Tax Relief   51.2%

Increase Government Spending   24.9%

Pay Down State Debt   36.5%

Last session, Governor Dayton proposed creating all-day pre-kindergarten for Minnesota's three and four year olds. Proponents claim it will help close the achievement gap for children from low-income families. Opponents claim it is too expensive, school districts do not have the resources or room to accommodate so many new students, and it takes away parent choice in early education programs. Do you support all-day pre-kindergarten?

Yes   19.9%

No   70.7%

Undecided   9.4%

Tax relief is expected to be an important issue in the 2016 legislative session. Would you like to see middle class tax relief legislation passed this year?

Undecided   14.7%

MNsure Reform   17.7%

Environmental Protections   16.5%

Streamline State Government   44.4%

Other   14.4%

Last year, House Republicans introduced a 10-year, $7 billion transportation bill that invests in road and bridge improvements without raising the gasoline tax or seven-county metro area sales tax. Do you support this proposal?

Yes   69.6%

No   16.1%
