Legislative Update (April 22, 2016)

Friday, April 22, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

This week was one of the most memorable so far as a representative. I passed my first bill, met with students from my alma mater, and am already looking forward to another meet-and-greet in our area.

Bill Passage

Yesterday my first bill passed off the House floor by a 129-0 vote! I’m extremely proud to pass my first bill and for the broad bipartisan support it received in the House.

My bill, HF3175, provides increased safety measures for driving instructors by strengthening how criminal background checks are received before issuing an instructor license. It’s a common sense measure to ensure greater safety for those learning to drive. Although my children are still years away from driving classes, I know many parents will have a greater sense of security as their kids get behind the wheel with an instructor.

Proud to be a Royal

On Wednesday, I met with Bethel University students and staff who came to the Capitol to advocate for the Minnesota state grant program. I also learned more about the Bethel University Inclusive Learning and Development (BUILD) initiative taking place on campus. This program gives students with intellectual disabilities the chance to learn and build skills alongside other Bethel students. It’s working so well, we’re exploring using this model at other universities around the state. Thanks to all the students who made the trip to St. Paul; go Royals!

Meet-And-Greet Scheduled

We had such a great turnout for the last legislative meet-and-greet, that I’m hosting another in just over a week. The free event is Saturday, April 30 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Once again, the event will be located at Mugshots Coffee Company, 10518 France Ave S, Bloomington. It was great meeting many of you, and I look forward to seeing an even bigger turnout next Saturday.

If you can’t make it to the event, feel free to call or email my office. You can reach me at 651-296-4218 or rep.chad.anderson@house.mn.

Enjoy your weekend,

Chad
