Legislative Update (April 15, 2016)

Friday, April 15, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

I expect you’re eager to get outside and enjoy our warm spring. Before you head out, here’s a brief look at this week in St. Paul.

Education Bills

This week, the 2016 education omnibus bill passed out of committee, and I’m proud to say two of my provisions were included. The first, HF3313, is my bill to address student discipline issues by creating a working group of parents, teachers, administrators, and discipline experts. This is a good first step in making our schools safer while encouraging classroom learning.

The second bill, HF3013, allows high school students to be reimbursed one time for taking the SAT. Currently, state statute only allows for reimbursement of the ACT. Allowing students to take the SAT gives high schoolers more choice in the college they wish to attend.

Service Day Saturday

Tomorrow marks a great event in our area: Service Day Saturday. A Service Fair starts tomorrow at the Savage City Hall from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. This is a great event for kids to get involved and learn about helping others. If you’d like more information, please click here.

Please Visit Me

By law, the legislative session must adjourn on or before May 23. This means we’re just a few weeks away from completing our business at the Capitol, and it’s more important than ever for you to contact me and share your opinion. I’d love to see you in St. Paul, or schedule a time to meet in our district. I’m here to represent and work for you, and I hope you’ll continue to reach out whenever you have a question.

Enjoy your weekend,

Drew
