Constituents at the Capitol
Thank you to everyone from my district who came down to the Capitol this week! I appreciate meeting people from our community and hearing about their priorities for state government.

Relief for Businesses
Today, the House passed a bipartisan bill to give businesses across the state a boost by right-sizing the state's overfunded Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund.
You may recall this legislation being discussed in my last update, and now both the Senate and House have passed this provision and sent it to Governor Dayton, who has indicated he will sign the bill into law.
I am particularly pleased that we are giving significant financial relief to businesses across the state by crediting $258 million back to businesses who pay into the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund. What's more, this reform will reduce future obligations to pay into the trust fund when its balance grows beyond a fully-funded threshold per federal standards. In that way, businesses see relief while the fund still holds ample money to pay unemployment insurance claims when Minnesota workers lose their job.
Keeping more money in the private sector and out of the hands of government is always a good thing, and with that extra money employers can hire additional workers, grow their businesses and help contribute to a healthy, thriving Minnesota economy.
