Legislative Update (March 24, 2016)

Thursday, March 24, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

The legislative session is in full swing, and we’re staying busy with committees and floor sessions. I’m happy to be back in St. Paul working for our area, and look forward to hearing from you regarding any state issue. I wanted to pass along a quick update from the Capitol before we start the weekend.

Bill To Aid High School Students

Yesterday, I presented one of my bills, HF3013, in the Education Finance Committee. In Minnesota, high school students may be reimbursed for the ACT test one time. This eliminates barriers for students who may struggle to pay for the exam. My bill is simple; it would expand this statute to include the SAT, too. Many colleges and universities prefer the SAT for admission requirements, and this gives all Minnesota students an opportunity to take the right test for the schools that interest them. This legislation wouldn’t cost the state any money, but opens up more college possibilities for our high schoolers.

Constituent Visits

One of the best parts of the legislative session is chatting with people across the district. Recently I’ve met with constituents from the Minnesota Nurses Association, National Federation of the Blind, and the Minnesota Athletic Trainers Association. If you’re planning to be in St. Paul and would like to meet with me in my office, please contact me to set up a date and time.

Happy Easter

Despite the snow outside, spring is around the corner and Easter is already upon us. I hope you and your family have an enjoyable Easter while you celebrate the reason for the holiday!

As always, please call, email, or visit me in St. Paul to share your opinion. I’m here to serve you, and value your ideas and suggestions.

Have a great weekend, and Happy Easter!

Drew
