Legislative Update - July 19, 2018

Thursday, July 19, 2018

Dear Neighbor,

It’s hard to believe that summer is already about half way gone! There’s no shortage of opportunities to get outside and enjoy everything our state has to offer, so I hope you’re taking advantage of these with your family and friends. Explore Minnesota’s website is an excellent resource with information on areas you may be planning to visit, and it may even inspire new ideas for spots to check out throughout Minnesota.

Reminder: Property Tax Refund
If you haven’t yet done so, don’t forget to apply for your property tax refund or renters credit. Every year, many Minnesotans qualify for one of these refunds, but too many forget to file for it. The deadline is August 15th. More information is available at the Department of Revenue’s Property Tax Refund website.

Jobs Report
Today, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development released the latest monthly jobs report. It highlighted several positive metrics: the lowest unemployment rate in 18 years, the highest number of jobs ever (2.9 million), and unemployment at or below four percent for nearly four consecutive years. While this is all good news, we have plenty of work yet to do to ensure all families have economic security. By moving ahead with ideas like paid family leave, earned sick and safe time, increasing availability of housing, and more affordable health care options (including the MinnesotaCare Buy-In), we can give everyone an opportunity to succeed.

Last Update
On another note, this will be my last email update until after the November election. In the period following the 60 days after adjournment in an election year, we’re unable to send mass communications like this. Still, I encourage you to reach out to me any time with your questions, input, or if I can ever be of assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Liz Olson
State Representative
