Statement: Governor Signs Bonding Bill

Wednesday, May 30, 2018

SAINT PAUL, MN – Governor Mark Dayton has signed the $1.4 billion infrastructure bill, passed by the legislature in the final hour of the 2018 legislative session. House Capital Investment DFL Lead, Rep. Alice Hausman, released this statement:

“Governor Dayton’s signature of the bonding bill will allow many deserving projects to move forward. Although the measure makes important investments in higher education, clean water and affordable housing across the state, it also excludes transit and includes nothing for passenger rail, which has proven to improve regional economic competitiveness.

“The bill also creates an unwise precedent by using the Environmental Trust Fund to pay debt service on appropriation bonds, which is unconstitutional.

“While interest rates are low, it makes good economic sense to pass a robust bill. We’re only part way there with this measure, but this bill will help many communities statewide."
