Release: State Rep. Paul Rosenthal Announces New Position and Retirement from Minnesota House

St. Paul, MN—Today, Representative Paul Rosenthal (DFL-Edina, West Bloomington, Minnetonka and Eden Prairie) announced that he will not seek re-election to the Minnesota House of Representatives this fall. Rep. Rosenthal has served in the House for four non-consecutive terms since 2008.

“I’ve accepted a position as the Director of External Affairs for Western Governors University (WGU), a nonprofit organization based in Salt Lake City,” said Rep. Rosenthal. “Higher education has always been a passion of mine and I look forward to a new opportunity helping more people attain success in and access to higher education.”

Rep. Rosenthal’s legislative accomplishments include passing legislation to combat financial fraud against senior citizens and vulnerable adults, renewing efforts to convene a legislative bipartisan small business caucus, increasing penalties for hit and run violations and securing funds for the 35W/494 interchange improvement.

“I have loved every minute of my time at the Legislature,” said Rep. Rosenthal. “Representing our growing and diversifying community in St. Paul has been an incredible honor. I’m humbled to have had this opportunity, working on behalf of the people who make Minnesota such an amazing place to live.”

He has served on the following committees: Housing, Early Childhood (Vice-Chair), Public Safety (Vice-Chair), Higher Education, Transportation Policy and Finance, Commerce & Consumer Protection, Veterans Affairs Division (DFL-Lead).

“Over the course of serving, I’ve made great friends on both sides of the aisle and have learned so much from my colleagues and our hardworking staff,” continued Rosenthal. “My constituents have always been my number one priority; it’s been a privilege working with and serving them at the Minnesota House of Representatives.”
