SAINT PAUL, MN – Today, State Rep. Ilhan Omar (DFL – Minneapolis) responded to the House State Government Finance Committee passage of a standalone state pensions bill to secure the retirements of thousands of Minnesota employees with the following statement:
“This effort to secure the retirements of thousands of Minnesota public employees was long overdue, and I’m glad we finally took the important step of passing a standalone bill unanimously today. This bill will ensure that Minnesota continues to be a strong partner in the financial security and sustainability of public pensions for over 500,000 active and retired public employees. I appreciate the efforts to get this work completed together now, while our state budget is stronger than other states. This bipartisan work strengthens our long-term role to provide financial security to retirees and keeps the promises we made to the people who worked so hard for us as teachers, fire fighters, snow plow drivers, and others who fill so many of our state’s vital needs. I hope we can pass the bill off the House floor for the Governor’s signature as soon as possible.”
