Dear Neighbors,
We have three weeks left in the legislative session and there is plenty left to accomplish. We still need to debate and vote on major omnibus bills and the tax conformity proposal. We have yet to see a bonding bill to fund public infrastructure improvements from the Republican majority. Here are the latest updates from the Capitol:
E-12 and Higher Education Omnibus Bill
Last night, the House passed the E-12 and Higher Education Omnibus Bill. Minnesotans value quality education and ensuring our kids have a bright future through education. Unfortunately, this bill failed to continue voluntary Pre-K programs and underfunded our public universities.
All Minnesota kids deserve a world-class education and the opportunity to succeed. I will continue to advocate for learners of all ages in our community.
Common Sense Safety
It looks as though any reasonable actions on gun safety have stalled for this session. I’m disappointed the Republican majority blocked these efforts multiple times, especially because a majority of Minnesotans support common sense legislation.
We should be taking reasonable action like universal background checks and extreme risk protection orders that make our communities safer while protecting the rights of responsible gun owners.
Kenyan Delegation Reception
A delegation from the Kenyan government visited the Capitol this week. At a reception on Tuesday, I had the opportunity to hear what they’re taking away from their visit. One person told me the Minnesota legislature seems very organized and another was impressed with all the rallies and protests at the Capitol.

We also know that identity theft is a major concern for millions of Americans every year. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
Saturday, April 28 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. From 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Minnesotans can drop off leftover opioids in approved drop boxes for proper disposal, no questions asked. This is the recommended method of disposal for opioids as it helps prevent crime, drug abuse, and accidental poisoning.

Support Your Public Lands
On Wednesday, there was a rally in the Rotunda of hunters, anglers, and other outdoor enthusiasts in support of our public lands. Whether it’s hunting, fishing, or just enjoying the outdoors, they emphasized the importance of protecting these treasures to pass on to our children and grandchildren.
