Wednesday, March 28, 2018

SAINT PAUL, MN. – Today, State Rep. Carlos Mariani (DFL-St. Paul) shared his support for Governor Mark Dayton’s proposal to make permanent a previous one-time appropriation for voluntary pre-Kindergarten programs pioneered under the Dayton Administration. If the Legislature takes no action, significant funding for St. Paul Public Schools will end.

Local one-time funds approved in a previous legislative session are as follows:

St. Paul Public School District

Approx. 227 pre-K students

Received $1,678,717 in one-time spending.

“Passing universal pre-K for thousands of Minnesota’s earliest learners will help ensure they get off to a strong start in life,” said Rep. Mariani. “This investment is helping hundreds of St. Paul children, and it’s an investment we need to continue. I appreciate Governor Dayton’s recognition of this and his leadership for vital pre-K dollars here in St. Paul and throughout our state.”

Rep. Mariani is the DFL Lead on the Education Innovation Policy Committee and is also a member of the Education Finance Committee in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
