ST. PAUL- Today, Governor Dayton called on the Minnesota Legislature to protect funding for voluntary pre-Kindergarten programs across the state. If legislative action is not taken to make the funding permanent, 59 school districts statewide will lose previously set aside, one-time funding including three school districts within Rep. Connie Bernardy’s legislative district: Fridley, Spring Lake Park and Anoka-Hennepin. A spreadsheet of all impacted school districts can be found here. Rep. Connie Bernardy (DFL- New Brighton) released the following statement:
“Education is highly valued in our community. Our community and state have been leaders on a number of educational fronts, especially for our youngest learners. If our preschoolers lose the current, dedicated voluntary pre-Kindergarten funding, it will be a huge step backward. We must do all we can to protect our students’ educational opportunities. It’s important we move forward and pass this needed funding.”
