Greetings Northlanders,
We’re closing in on the end of our second week back at the Capitol and committee hearings are in full swing with testimony from stakeholders and votes on bills. Here are a few updates from St. Paul:
Meetings This Week
I met with Cathy Chavers, chair of the Bois Forte Tribal Council and Norman Deschampe, chair of the Grand Portage Tribal Council, on a variety of issues, including the sulfate standard, education, and the opioid crisis.
This week, I also took part in a Minnesota rural counties legislative panel, where we discussed buffers and county program aid; some of the same topics I spoke with county commissioners about in the last couple days.
Staff members from the Ely and Grand Marais YMCA’s stopped by my office on Wednesday. Their feedback and input was appreciated.

As session ramps up, please feel free to reach out with your own input on legislative matters.
Sincerely,
Rob Ecklund
