Legislative Update - February 23, 2018

Friday, February 23, 2018

Dear Neighbors,

The 2018 legislative session started Tuesday and only lasts three months, which means it will be a fast-paced session; we have a lot to do.

I was disappointed with the majority’s approach to basically reconvene the special session from last year and appoint conference committees, denying the public their chance for meaningful input. This is an unfortunate way to start the session but I’m committed to making this session as productive as it can be.

So far, I’ve introduced three bills:

  • HF2824: This bill provides a $0.75/hr raise for home healthcare workers. These workers are our neighbors who care for our loved ones and work long hours in a difficult field for far too little pay. Frankly, I find this to be an embarrassment to the state of Minnesota.
  • HF2782: This would authorize a nearly $7 million grant to the city of Mankato to design and construct improvements to reduce erosion and improve water quality in the Minnesota River-Mankato watershed.
  • HF2781: If this bill is passed, it would ban “bump stocks” in Minnesota, which modify semiautomatic weapons to fire faster. Even the NRA is open to regulating bump stocks.

Along with these bills, I’ll be pushing for improvements to the Sakatah Trail and securing the funds to finish the Clinical Sciences Building at MSU-Mankato.

As always, please feel free to reach out with your questions and concerns. You can reach me by email at rep.jack.considine@house.mn or by phone at 651-296-3248.

Sincerely,

Jack Considine

State Representative
