Legislative Update - February 14, 2018

Wednesday, February 14, 2018

Greetings Northlanders,

The legislative session is less than a week away and our to-do list is growing by the minute. Hearing about your concerns and what would help your family is critical to how I work to shape policies at the Capitol. My top priority is that our community not only succeeds, but thrives. That is why I am always fighting so every student has access to quality education, people can find jobs that provide fair pay for hard work, and seniors have a secure retirement. I am here to listen and represent you. Please send me an email or call and let me know what is important to you.

Review of Frontier Internet Service
Late last fall I heard complaints about the service and billing issues with Frontier. I asked many of our neighbors to file official complaints with the Public Utilities Commission. After hearing from many of you state regulators are going to begin a review. Obviously no one is happy about poor service, but it is good to know action is being taken to protect consumers. Thank you to all of you who spoke up. Over the new few weeks regulators will be seeking additional comments to further detail your experiences with Frontier. I will keep you all posted with any information that I receive.

Tips for Winter
While we are still in the middle of a middle of winter the Minnesota Department of Commence has some useful tips for staying safe in your home from carbon monoxide and heating hazards. Click here to read and find out more.

I also want to highlight Minnesota’s energy assistance program. Many Minnesotans are still struggling to pay their winter heating bills. If you or someone you know may benefit from this program contact call the Commerce Department toll-free at 800-657-3710 or visit the Energy Assistance Program section of the Commerce website (mn.gov/commerce).

Assistance is available for homeowners or renters who earn less than 50 percent of the state’s median annual income (for example $48,077 for a family of four).

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Rob Ecklund
State Representative
