RELEASE: Rep. Fue Lee Praises DNR ‘Bde Maka Ska’ Name Change Approval

Thursday, January 18, 2018

SAINT PAUL, MN – State Rep. Fue Lee (DFL – Minneapolis) says the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources made the right decision today by approving the change of the name of Minneapolis’ Lake Calhoun to the original Dakota language name, Bde Maka Ska.

“The DNR reached the right decision today, after a very thorough process that was undertaken by the Hennepin County Commissioners,” said Rep. Lee. “I think this has been a great example of how we can always find new ways to remember our history as a Nation, educate our neighbors about the diversity of our state and the actions of our ancestors, and honor the first people of Minnesota. Bde Maka Ska will continue to be a treasure for Minneapolis and Minnesota.”
