RELEASE: Rep. Rick Hansen proposes bill to reimburse license centers for MNLARS expenses and overtime

Tuesday, December 5, 2017

SAINT PAUL, MN— Ahead of tomorrow’s Select Committee meeting on MNLARS, State Rep. Rick Hansen (DFL – South Saint Paul) has announced that he will be introducing legislation to reimburse deputy registrars for any expenses and overtime associated with the MNLARS (Minnesota licensing and registration system) roll out.

“Deputy Registrars and those working at licensing centers who have been adversely impacted deserve to be compensated for their extra time. As Minnesotans, we pride ourselves on efficient and effective government, but when something goes wrong we need to make sure it’s made right. Compensating registrars for their extra time and work at our license centers is the right thing to do.”

Rep. Hansen’s legislation would appropriate $10 million to compensate registrars and those working at independent license centers. Coauthors, including those on the Select Committee on Technology and Responsive government, are Rep. Jamie Becker-Finn (DFL-Roseville) and Rep. Mary Kunesh-Podein (DFL-New Brighton).

“While we’ve seen problems with the roll out of a new licensing system, we would rather focus on making sure the basic functions of government work, fix these problems, and make sure those who are working extra hours are fairly reimbursed for their time.”

The MNLARS meeting of the Select Committee of on Technology and Responsive Government will be held at 10:00 a.m. in Room 5 of the State Office Building on Wednesday, December 6th. Rep. Hansen’s legislation will be officially introduced February 20th when the 2018 legislative session begins. For more information about the proposed legislation, contact Rep. Hansen’s office.
