2017 State Veterans Day Observance

Thursday, November 9, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

Every year we reflect on the sacrifices made by members of our armed forces in service to our country. I hope you’ll use this observance to open doors and create opportunities for veterans not just on Veterans Day, but every day. These brave men and women volunteer out of a spirit of service and commitment to our country. I hope you can join me in attending the State Veterans Day Ceremonies at Veterans Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights (8055 Barbara Avenue, Inver Grove Heights, MN), Saturday, November 11th. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., followed by the official program at 10 a.m. This event is free and open to the public.

As we thank the men and women who have served, we must recognize the challenges that many veterans face upon returning home. Whether regarding housing, employment, or health care, there are often roadblocks in the way of returning to normalcy. There are resources available for them from several different organizations:

Minnesota National Guard – Beyond the Yellow Ribbon

Minnesota Assistance Council For Veterans

Homeless Veteran Prevention and Assistance

Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs

As the weather turns colder, the Minnesota Department of Commerce reminds us that energy assistance is available for those who may struggle paying their heating bills. No veteran who has sacrificed so much should be left in the cold. For more information, visit Commerce’s website here.

Throughout the state, there are events in observance of Veterans Day. Take a look at the list from the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs here, to attend an event near you.

Sincerely,

Sandy Masin

State Representative
