Legislative Update (3-18-16)

Friday, March 18, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

Things are progressing at the Capitol as week 2 of the legislative session has officially come to a close. Committees have been working diligently to complete work in a timely manner as we work to meet deadlines in this shortened session.

On Wednesday, I had a bill before the Health and Human Services Reform Committee. The idea for this piece of legislation was brought to me by a local business owner who, due to regulations from the state, was in danger of losing her business.

HF 2389 would require eyelash extension technicians to be regulated by the Board of Cosmetologist Examiners. In doing this we will be able to save eyelash technicians, many of whom have been operating for 10 years or more, from having to spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours going back to school to be certified. If these small business owners are required to do this, they would have to close their doors for an extended period of time, risking the loss of customers.

The bill passed out of committee and I will be sure to keep you updated as it moves through the legislative process.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if I can ever be of assistance to you or your family. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-3201 or via email at rep.mary.franson@house.mn.

Also, please be sure to contact my office if you are planning to be in St. Paul anytime this session. It would be great to meet with you!

Thank you for the opportunity to serve, I truly represent the best.

Enjoy your weekend,
Mary
