RELEASE: Thissen: Goal of Mediation Should be Transparency and Fiscal Responsibility

Friday, September 8, 2017

SAINT PAUL, MINN. – Today, the Minnesota Supreme Court released their decision on the lawsuit between Governor Mark Dayton and the Republican-controlled Legislature. In the ruling, the court ordered that the funding dispute be resolved using mediation and upheld the Governor’s line-item veto as constitutional. State Rep. Paul Thissen (DFL – Minneapolis) released the following statement:

"Minnesotans deserve transparency during the mediation process between Governor Dayton and legislators,” Rep. Thissen said. "We work for Minnesotans, and they deserve a process that is open to the public. They deserve to know who is in the room, and they have the right to know what is being said. Additionally, reversing irresponsible tax breaks for wealthy special interests should be a priority. Every recent monthly revenue forecast points to the fact that we will be in a budget deficit by next spring. Minnesotans can’t afford the repercussions of reckless Republican tax breaks for the wealthy."
